Asian handicap in numbers
Asian handicap removes the draw from the equation. A half line (such as -0.5) means the team must win; a whole line (-1) refunds the stake if the team wins by exactly one goal; a quarter line (-0.75) splits the stake in two, half on -0.5 and half on -1. Worked example: 100,000 on -0.75 at odds of 1.90, and the team wins 1-0. The half on -0.5 wins (50,000 × 1.90 = 95,000), the half on -1 is refunded (50,000). Total return 145,000.
Working out a football market's margin
Two-way markets such as over/under 2.5 are the easiest. Example: over at 1.90 and under at 1.90. Each implies 52.6%, a total of 105.3%.
